Chinese New Year 2016

The event is the brainchild of both Harry Collinson and Ian Wong, who have worked for months to bring together every aspect of the event.

Mr Wong, who runs Asiana restaurant in Sunderland city centre, said: “The time was right to have a sizeable celebration in the city for Chinese New Year. There is quite a large Chinese community in Sunderland, which is growing every year with the arrival of more Chinese students. There are big celebrations for Chinese New Year in other parts of the North East and we felt that Sunderland definitely needed to have one of their own.”

Social Room

Social Room are a musical sextet – who co-incidentally share an acronym with the postcode of their residence, SR…..

Formed in summer 2014, the band began to hone their upbeat sounds within the four walls of windowless rehearsal spaces lacking in much soul – before finally settling on a permanent home amongst the budget emporiums & needle exchanges of deepest Sunderland city centre. Rumour has it is that this base is haunted – although not one band-member has yet to risk a lonesome after-dark dalliance to confirm…… | Click here for Booking Requests

What People Are Saying...

  • "Some people talk a lot and some people get things done. Harry does talk a lot but he also gets things done. He is always positive and fun to be around and that's why he will always be successful. My mother always said there are two kinds of people, "Drains and Radiators", that's why I work with Harry. He's a radiator."

  • "Mr. Collinson has been a great support to the Mayoral Charities this year. At my recent Business Dinner which was held at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland, Mr. Collinson was instrumental in organising the evening’s entertainment and the decoration of the tables and venue for that evening. He has also assisted the Mayor’s Office in the organisation of some of my other Charity Meal nights at the Le Cena Exchange and the Funky Indian restaurants in Sunderland. His attendance at these Charity nights has been a wonderful support for the Mayorality and my Charities and I have to thank Mr. Collinson for his generosity and commitment. I very much look forward to working with him throughout the rest of my Mayoral year."

  • "Harry is Mr Sunderland. He goes the extra mile (and then some) and always has smile on his face. A lovely man to know and work with."
    Martin LongstaffThe Lake Poets
  • "Harry Collinson is one of the most friendly and energetic business people I know. Passionate about things that matter to him, his family and friends, his city and his business interests, he is an enthusiast, someone who wants to make things happen and when he is involved in a project, he wants it to be first class. When he sets his mind to something he will usually achieve it and he is always trying to push the barriers of what can be delivered. Open to new ideas and new ways of doing things, he infuses others with his ambition. An excellent networker, his friendly and open manner mean that people like Harry and like to work with him and this creates opportunities that might not otherwise happen."
